Social Equine
Social Equine is a social-network for Horse people. If you love horses and looking for a way to connect with other horse people, join Social Equine.
Building niche websites and blogs is what Nomad Thinking is all about. We enjoy building small projects and building them out. This project was built completely with Ruby on Rails. We deployed the project using Capistrano and find making updates a breeze. Please take a look around, we are still beta mode, but adding users everyday.
Hippy Green
Nomad Thinking, LLC is not only a web development company, but we also try and stay green. Because of our commitment to stay green, John Murch is driving a 2007 Toyota Prius to help cut down on pollution while being a nomad thinking. Since traveling is what we do best, we decide to be socially responsible about our ways.
Being Green can also be fun and thats why we started and created a technoenviornmental blog, Hippy Green. We post various Green events and/or technology that is helping the environment as well as cutting down on our waste.
Ziff Davis Enterprise
We worked with Ziff Davis Enterprise from September 2006 to April 2007. We assisted in creating and migrating Community Server Blogs to Movable Type Blogs. We also helped with launching their social network, Ziff Davis IT Link
While working for Ziff Davis Enterprise, our Geek Guru John Murch worked as the Blog Manager. He helped develop the Movable Type templates of the new Microsoft Watch. Building the templates for Microsoft Watch involved using Movable Type Tags as well as editing CSS and HTML.
This project had a specific deadline of November 1st 2006 (about 1 month from hire), and was successful completed with a couple of days to spare! Ziff Davis Enterprise relaunched Microsoft Watch on November 1. After this launch, John Murch continued on to create a Ziff Davis Enterprise Blog Template as well as add some custom features to 22 other blogs which are featured on the new eWeek Blog Landing page.
Once we had a couple of blogs going, we couldn't stop and looked for a way to speed up this process. John Murch put together a standard template that could dynamically fill in content based on the new template. This dynamic blogging template has been rolled out to over 22 blogs!
Some of the other blogs include eWeek's Channel Insider Blog, various CIO Insight Blogs, and even a web 2.0 ish blog IT Hub.
Ziff Davis IT Link
While working for Ziff Davis Enterprise, we help launch a social network, Ziff Davis IT Link
Ziff Davis IT Link is a social network that runs on Leverage Software. Leverage Software allows for a simple easy to roll out social network, but has a lot of limitations. I hope to see much improvement from Leverage Software in the upcoming years, but seeing the lack of feature set that allows for people to network as well as the "friend" aka stalker network, gives me little hope with future in this software.
This project was challenging due to the fact Leverage Software does not help with building custom features and only had a small working API. We were under a lot of pressure to create features that do NOT easily integrate to Leverage Software. Luckily Nomad Thinking enjoys solving tough problems and were able to solved many problems such as ad placement by using some AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML) and html hacks.
